Great advice! I'm really sorry about the Ebay thing, but I understand your passion.
I have not come across anything really bad from free ads, I think you have to weigh extra costs vs. outcome. I mean I did pay the $10.00 for USFreeads, but it was for a whole year and I can even place specific items with a Pay Pal button, making the shopping easier. I guess I felt it was super cheap advertising even if there are no sales. There are places that want you to upgrade, but I don't do that, I really place the ads on other sites to help my ranking.
The other thing to do is get one way links to your site through directories, DO NOT pay for the links, only do the directories that have regular links for free! Go here: http://freewebsubmission.com to place your site on lots on diractories, it's a great way to start building your online presence as a whole.
Wishing you much success!

Hi Laura. You are correct. There are so many free advertising websites out there, it's awesome. However, you do have to be careful as some of them lure you in stating "free classifieds" or "free advertising" and when you register, they then want your credit card, and typically, up to 19.99 for upgrading, or, being able to sell or whatever terminology they choose to use to justify, their deception. Buying is free. Isn't that nice. Duh! Don't know any site that charges buyers, do you? USfreeads is wonderful, however, they let you list 1 (one) item free. If you want to add pictures or list more than 1 (one) item, you have to "upgrade" which again, is misleading. So whether their stipulation is for "claiming it is to "verify" who you are and guarantee top placement or however they spin it. To me, that is a scam and misleading. I do understand that with the fraud out there, some websites encourage this to help prevent theft. However, in my 12 years on the internet, the scammers or thieves if you will, use stolen identities to verify themselves anway, and it is a vicious circle. So why bother? It is risky either way, with transacting on the internet. ebay was the worse for not stopping the criminal activity. Their excuse, "privacy" issues. Whatever! I got a gal and her husband arrested after they had over 10,000 transactions on ebay, all scams, all across the globe, and ebay kept suspending me and a few others who were trying to make ebay a safe place! It wasn't a vigalante squad, basically, we were doing ebay's job because we were tired of being ripped off as sellers or buyers! That's another story. Sorry, I have a very strong passion on that subject. At any rate, thank you for giving everyone more sites and tips on how to find them. It's easy as 1, 2, 3. Just be aware that you don't have to "pay" to sell, regardless of how they phrase it.
