This is an open source, GNU project, for creating 3D content.
They have great documentation, and tutorials. One of the tutorials takes you from the basics through creating a video game (Blender has a video game engine).

Blender is awsome, even for an open source free program.

Check out Blender.org. The new release (2.43) has a sculpt mode that
lets you sculpt objects/characters like you had clay in your hands!
It's that simple.

The game engine is also something. You can easily create game logic
just by clicking and dragging the mouse - hooking sensors of all types to controlers to activators of all kinds...which include sending messages to objects and incrementing/checking values of variables.

I just created a video tutorial, 5 separate clips actually, that lead you from basic Blender to creating a simple game that has two levels.

No prior knowledge of Blender is required. Contact me if you'd like copies. The files are quite large, however.
