Question to Add:

Is Thank you for Smoking a briliant movie but it doesn't get a lot of pub because it humanizes many Republican ideals?

1. What do you think of the movie Elizabethtown? Don't be shy.

My hatred for Orlando Bloom went so above and beyond rational after this movie, there was no way I could like. Ah yes Orlando Bloom driving across America listening to Kirsten Dunst talk about what he will see.... KILL ME!

2. Is the "The Darjeeling Limited" (Wes Anderson's new film) going to be any good?

I want to say yes. I love Adrien Brody and Schwartzman, but after Life Aquatic... I don't know. The only reason saving grace to Life Aquatic is it was the first time I listened to Sigur Ros = changed my life.

3. What's your favorite Fellini film, and why?

Haven't seen one.

4. Is the "Pirates Trilogy" comparable to "Star Wars"?

Might be the worst question I ever read. We are all dumber for even thinking about this. Pirates can't even sniff Star Wars's jock.

5. Would Kubrick's "A.I." be better than Spielberg's?

Kubrick (though I did like AI).

6. If Orson Welles had done a Batman movie, would it really be that good?
Think about it.

Only if Batman yelled Rosebud while standing on top of a building with the Bat symbol shinning in there. Think about that!

7. Would Ashton Kutcher have done a better acting job than Orlando Bloom in "Elizabethtown"?

Yes. A dead corpse would have been better!

8. Originally, Sarah Polley and Brad Pitt were cast as Penny Lane and Russell Hammond in "Almost Famous". Would they have been better than Kate Hudson and Billy Crudup?

hmmmm.... no... this was Kate Hudson's best charcter/movie. she was made for that role.

9. Favorite Whit Stillman film and favorite quote from that film?

Have not seen any of his movie.

10. How fantastic is Chris Eigeman?

Sam, Did you recently watch Last Days of Disco?

11. Does Lindsay Lohan have actual acting chops?

No

12. Will the new "Indian Jones" movie be any good? Why do you think another one is being made? Will you see it on the first day it comes out?

This is a good question. I think it will, but it is crazy to think that Indiana will be as old as his father was in Last Crusade. I actually hope the make him less adventures and over the top.

13. Is Kate Beckinsale talented? I think so. But it has been a long time since "The Last Days of Disco", "Cold Comfort Farm", and "Much Ado About Nothing". Can she do solid work again or is she relegated to more "Underworld" and "Van Helsing" sequels?

Is any actor or actress that was in Pearl Harbor talented????

14. Does Christian Bale over-prepare for his roles or is he just devoted to his craft? Should every actor have that kind of devotion?

Can the greatest actor of our time over prepare.... NO!!!! Patrick Bateman is an unbelievably complex character, and Bale nailed it.

15. Have you ever seen George Lucas' first film "THX 1138"? If so, what direction do think he might have taken if he hadn't made "Star Wars"?

I have not seen THX 1138 but know the premis. I think Lucas was going for similar things in Star Wars, but more to the masses. Then he was known for special effects and it has been down hill since.

16. Is Hitchcock overrated?

probably not. I have no desire just to sit down and watch his work, but when i actually do you can see his brilliance.

17. Will the next Judd Apatow directed movie star Paul Rudd as the main character?

Is Paul Rudd ever a main character? I wish he was but he is always supporting somebody.

18. Favorite Pedro Almodóvar? I don't need to know why. I haven't seen one. I'm just curious.

never seen one

19. Who should direct the last Harry Potter film? If your answer contains spoilers from the book please make a note of it.

My Harry Potter hatred is getting to the same level as Orlando Bloom.

20. How good does Paul Thomas Anderson's new film look?

He should just rerelease Magnolia in the theaters.

21. Should they make a "Sopranos" movie?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! I love the show, I hope they don't make a movie. We don't need closure.

22. Does anyone care about the "Sex in the City" movie they are going to make?

What is "Sex in the City"???? Come on, was the show that great?

23. What book would you really like to see adapted into a film?

Eregon, with a different production company, script writer, director, casting director, cast. Could have been a really good movie, yet it rivals Battle Field Earth for the worst movie ever.

24. Why am I not blown away by "Lawrence of Arabia" and "Dr. Zhivago"? Is David Lean just to subtle for me?

I don't know if you have to be blown away by them, but just respect them.

25. Is it possible for Kevin Smith to make a quality movie without Jay, Silent Bob, and Jersey?

Can Orlando Bloom be good in a movie without being Legolas?

26. What is your favorite Woody Allen straight-up comedy? What is your favorite Woody Allen dramedy.

Melinda & Melinda

27. Have you seen "Erasure Head"? If so, what were your thoughts?

have not seen it, though i need to. big fan of David Lynch. Mulholland Dr. still blows my mind when I think about it.

28. Which "The Office" is better, British or American? And don't just say British to look like your smarter ok; be honest.

American. Steve Carell is the greatest. loved him since the Daily Show. However, I really like the opening/closing song to the British version.

29. Would an "Arrested Development" movie be a good idea?

yes, and i am queing up every season in my netflix account. why have i not seen every single episode.

30. Should Tom Tykwer ("Run Lola Run") go back to writing his own scripts? Why?

Does anybody know someone who has seen Perfume: The story of a Murderer?

31. Where is Franka Potente these days? Please someone tell me.

She is at the bottom of a river in India... Haven't you seen Bourne Supremacy?

32. Would a sequel to "Amelie" be a good idea? Think about it. Who thought there'd be a sequel to "Before Sunrise" and, it would be better?

No. There is no story to continue.

33. Speaking of which, how underrated is Richard Linklater?

He directed Bad News Bears. I guess we all have bumps in our roads.

34. Has anyone seen the trailer for "Be Kind Rewind" directed by Michele Gondry, starring Mos Def and Jack Black? I don't know what to think really.

Haven't yet.

35. Do you think "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" is one of the best films ever? Not one your favorite films, but one of the best films, right up there with "The Godfather", "Citizen Cane", and "It Happened One Night".

Ahhh.... no. It is a great movie, don't get me wrong. One of the best movies every, no.

1. What do you think of the movie Elizabethtown?

The flick is a big pile of dung, but it's so fun to talk about how bad it is. I've actually only seen it once. I know some people think it is a legitimate movie but I think Cameron Crowe just went too far. He repeated himself in every artistic way and thought he could still get away with his brand of corniness that we have appreciated before. We know better with films like "Almost Famous" and "Jerry McGuire" but we let it slide and our cynicism subsides for some reason when everyone on the bus sings "Tiny Dancer" together or Renee Zellweger says, "You had me at hello." We love it even though we really know it's corny. It's a legit corniness. He thought he could keep doing this with Elizabethtown. The script is horrible; Orlando Bloom is laughable, as well as Kirsten Dunst as the perfect little pixie that says all the right things, "We're just in-between people". Plus you have no connection with the character's, that by the end, when Bloom cries (realizing that his dad really is dead...we don't care) on his 70's music, Americana road trip set up by the perfect blond pixie, you again...laugh. The unintentional comedy is priceless. The only legitimately good thing about the flick is Baldwin's cameo and the two people getting married in the hotel...and of course Paul Scheider (I'm just partial to him because he played one of my all-time favorite movie characters in "All the Real Girls). One more thing; who would try to commit suicide by duck-taping a freakin' bowie knife to the handle-bars of an exercise machine and then go through with it? Not Orlando Bloom, that's for sure.

2. Is the "The Darjeeling Limited" (Wes Anderson's new film) going to be any good?

Meh... is definitely an answer I'd expect from Phil. I am keeping my fingers crossed. It's Wes Anderson meets India, and Schwartzman is back for the first time since Rushmore (Cast isn't stale Dave, check IMDB). I have seen the trailer 5 times and I'm liking the Wilson, Brody, Schwartzman combo. It looks like Wes isn't trying too hard in this unlike "Life Aquatic". That makes me quite hopeful.

3. What's your favorite Fellini film, and why?

"8 1/2" most definitely. It is one of my favorite films period. Fellini somehow visually portrays the thoughts and intentions that flow through my brain every single day, conscious and subconscious. It's religious, it's sexually complex, it's quirky, it's sad, fun, claustrophobic, and a giddy delight. Guido Anselmi feels like a kindred spirit to me. He's heavily flawed but then again so am I. Also, one of the coolest, freakiest opening sequences I have ever seen on film.

4. Is the "Pirates Trilogy" comparable to "Star Wars"?

The question is serious. It came to my head because I had just finished reading a review Harry Knowles had given the third "Pirates" movie. He compared them, and...he loved the everliving excrement out of the "Pirates" movies, which I thought was interesting. It made me re-evaluate my take on the 'Captain Jack' trilogy because Knowles knows so much about movies that he makes me look like I've never seen one before. He might have something because nostalgia always plays a big part in a decision like this one. "Star Wars" was great. It's not that amazing now, for me at least; but I'd probably take it over "Pirates".

5. Would Kubrick's "A.I." be better than Spielberg's?

I liked Spielberg's too, but Kubrick's would have been freakier. What makes me curious is how or if Kubrick would have used CGI. I mean this guy made "2001" in the late 60's and the effects were better than "Star Wars".

6. If Orson Welles had done a Batman movie, would it really be that good?
Think about it.

I have no idea. All I thought about when I asked this question was Batman in black and white and that seemed cool. I've only seen one Welles film (Citizen Cane) and it was good. I wasn't blow away. Maybe I need to view it in a more studious manner. Anyway, what would the action be like? Would it be that good? I don't really think so. Welles could probably do an excellent psychological study of Bruce Wayne. I'd see that.

7. Would Ashton Kutcher have done a better acting job than Orlando Bloom in "Elizabethtown"?

Yes, simply because he's American and would have fit in more with the Americana aspects of the film. Bloom is British, out of place, and every action and word that expounds from him seems excruciatingly deliberate. Kutcher is no Danny D. Lewis, but then again this a Cameron Crowe film and Ashton was not that bad in "Butterfly Effect". Of course, in the end it would not have made a real difference because the script was crap.

8. Originally, Sarah Polley and Brad Pitt were cast as Penny Lane and Russell Hammond in "Almost Famous". Would they have been better than Kate Hudson and Billy Crudup?
Is this a Cameron Crowe survey Sam?

No Phil, I just went from the gut and this is what flowed out of me. As for me, Sarah Polley all the way. Hudson was good. She was able to be cute but not too much, unlike Dunst in "Elizabethtown". Although I will admit that there were times when she said the perfect thing and I cringed but stayed with it. Sarah Polley would have made it work better because she's a better actor than both Dunst and Hudson. Billy Crudup rules as Russell Hammond. But it's hard to really know if Pitt would be better because we never got a chance to see him do it and we might have not known the difference, you know? We don't know it any other way than with Crudup, who is good, so I guess there can't be an honest debate; these things just interest me.

9. Favorite Whit Stillman film and favorite quote from that film?

Right now? Oh man uh "Metropolitan". There are so many good ones! Here are some:

"I haven't been giving you the silent treatment. I just haven't been talking to you."

"The story of Babar... I'd forgotten how beautiful it was."

"You don't have to read a book to have an opinion."

"It's a tiny bit arrogant of people to go around worrying about those less fortunate."

"The most important thing to realize about parents is that there is absolutely nothing you can do about them."

10. How fantastic is Chris Eigeman?

He's freakin' great. I want him to star in the next live-action Wes Anderson movie. Everyone go rent "Kicking and Screaming", not the Will Ferrell movie.

11. Does Lindsay Lohan have actual acting chops?

Yes, and it's best displayed in the remake of "The Parent Trap". "Mean Girls" was amusing and she held her own in "A Prairie Home Companion", although it wasn't much of a movie, just a sketch of one. I'm not a fan really. I think I'm just intrigued a little by that fact that our media loves to make people insanely famous before they've ever really scratched the surface of their talent. Once they are famous, I wait to see if that talent really exists. Still not seeing the big deal about J-Lo.

12. Will the new "Indiana Jones" movie be any good? Why do you think another one is being made? Will you see it on the first day it comes out?

I'm sure I will not see it on opening day because I never see anything on opening day anymore. But I will definitely see it, and knowing that Spielberg is behind it as well as the lovely Blanchett casting move, I have the confidence that the experience will be fruitful. My only fear is, will Harrison Ford look physically awkward doing all the action? The fear started with "Air Force One" and that was about 10 years ago..."Get off my plane!"

13. Is Kate Beckinsale talented? I think so. But it has been a long time since "The Last Days of Disco", "Cold Comfort Farm", and "Much Ado About Nothing". Can she do solid work again or is she relegated to more "Underworld" and "Van Helsing" sequels?

I'm not sure where this question came from. I loved her in "Cold Comfort Farm", and she's perfect as a yuppie-ish, back-handed compliment maker in "The Last Days of Disco". What's funny about her early films is that she's cute, but not devastatingly good-looking like she is now. I think she is incredibly hot, but as her glamor has grown, so has her taste in horrendous scripts. I don't mind the hotness, but a good role would be the great equalizer. She will soon be seen in the new David Gordon Green ("All the Real Girls") flick "Snow Angels". I'm rooting for her...cause she's hot of course.

14. Does Christian Bale over-prepare for his roles or is he just devoted to his craft? Should every actor have that kind of devotion?

I have no idea. Maybe yes and no. I saw him once in an interview where he said that every role takes a toll on you and you just have to learn to live with it. That is some intense shizer, and he's willingly submitting himself to it. Now, take that thought and think of Patrick Batemen. I can't honestly say what sacrifices he makes to be the actor he is, but he is a damn good one.

15. Have you ever seen George Lucas' first film "THX 1138"? If so, what direction do you think he might have taken if he hadn't made "Star Wars"?

I have seen it and it is really good. It's minimal sci-fi that asks existential and societal questions, analyzing the human conndition. Sci fi like this truly fascinates me and this is an Adult movie. This, in no way shape or form resembles "Star Wars". This isn't "Buck Rodgers", it's art. If Lucas had followed in this path, maybe he would have ended up like Spielberg or maybe Malick. Apparently, the interest in directing anything else ended when "Star Wars" began.

16. Is Hitchcock overrated?

No, but I'm not in awe of him either. I think it's a question of "well at the time it was...." He liked blonds right?

17. Will the next Judd Apatow directed movie star Paul Rudd as the main character?

That would be spectacular. "I am very aroused."

18. Favorite Pedro Almodóvar? I don't need to know why. I haven't seen one. I'm just curious.

Well I asked this question before I saw one two nights ago. I think Phil might have put it perfectly below.
"I have always felt his films would resonate better with me if I were a women, but he is clearly talented."

19. Who should direct the last Harry Potter film? If your answer contains spoilers from the book please make a note of it.

*POTENTIAL SPOILERS BELOW*

I have been rummaging around on IMDB today, and last night I was thinking how hard it is to adapt books into movies. I told myself that they have to go for a three hour movie. I'd of course see a 10 hour Harry Potter movie. That would be fantastic. Anyway here is what I wrote pertaining to directors: Yates and Cuaron are the best bets for previous HP directors. For new ones I would recommend Del Toro or Jean Pierre Jeunet (Amelie, A Very Long Engagment, City of Lost Children). His vision would be amazing. I believe they approached him for "Order of the Phoenix" but he turned it down. Yates did a tremendous job but I couldn't sense his style. Maybe because I have never seen any of his stuff. But suddenly I'm thinking of the big battle scene at Hogwarts. Imagine it in the style of Cuaron's battle at the end of "Children of Men" (No cut-aways for about 45 minutes). How insane would that be?

20. How good does Paul Thomas Anderson's new film look?

Oscar noms all-around. It looks very Malickian-esque.

21. Should they make a "Sopranos" movie?

I could care less. I've seen about three seasons of this show and I don't know why I don't care about it. I just don't. I'm not obsessed with the Italian maffia like the rest of America.

22. Does anyone care about the "Sex in the City" movie they are going to make?

Yes, I care, in the fact that I don't want it made.

23. What book would you really like to see adapted into a film?

Phil I don't know how they could make "The Odyssey" without CGI. When "Troy" came out I thought they should have had Peter Jackson do five movies containing "The Iliad", "The Odyssey", and "The Orestian Trilogy". As cool as that would be, I guess it is unrealistic. For me I would like to see "Manalive" by G.K. Chesterton adapted as well as "Candide" by Voltaire.

24. Why am I not blown away by "Lawrence of Arabia" and "Dr. Zhivago"? Is David Lean just to subtle for me?

"Hey Lean, you can only make me look at epic desert shots for so long!"

25. Is it possible for Kevin Smith to make a quality movie without Jay, Silent Bob, and Jersey?

He hasn't given us any reason to think otherwise. By the way, "Clerks II" was really funny.

26. What is your favorite Woody Allen straight-up comedy? What is your favorite Woody Allen dramedy.

Dramedy: "Crimes and Misdemeanors/Annie Hall/Manhattan" Comedy: "Sleeper"

27. Have you seen "Erasure Head"? If so, what were your thoughts?

I've seen "Eraserhead" and it is the most effed up film I have ever seen. I didn't know what to think the entire time I watched it. Amazing lighting and framing though.

28. Which "The Office" is better, British or American? And don't just say British to look like your smarter ok; be honest.

They are both great, but the British one is so depressing and David Brent is way more pathetic than Michael Scott. He makes me squirm. My first thorough experience with the show is with the American one so I think I prefer that.

29. Would an "Arrested Development" movie be a good idea?

Sure, but they should keep the *bleeps*

30. Should Tom Tykwer ("Run Lola Run") go back to writing his own scripts? Why?

Everything I have seen by him, when he has written it, has been utterly brilliant. He is one of my favorite directors. Like Jeunet, he is a visual genius, so whatever he does will definitely look good i.e. "Perfume" and "Heaven". But what lacks is a personal relation to the characters and their experiences, which you do not need for a movie to be great, but because Tykwer has done it so well in "Winter Sleepers", "Run Lola Run", "The Princess & the Warrior" (My favorite) and his short film "True", (that's the title right Phil?) you expect and demand it from him on every subsequent project. Because those films leave you in total, inexplicable awe, whereas the other ones really don't.

31. Where is Franka Potente these days? Please someone tell me.
I guess she's in South America filming the Che Guevera biopic with Steven Soderburgh. I have no idea about that movie. It looks good on paper.

32. Would a sequel to "Amelie" be a good idea? Think about it. Who thought there'd be a sequel to "Before Sunrise" and, it would be better?

Definitely not, what was I thinking asking this question.

33. Speaking of which, how underrated is Richard Linklater?

"Damn...maybe one of the most diverse, underrated directors of our era. The man is a genius with a wide range and amazing vision." - what Phil said, although after watching "Scanner Darkly", his movie verbosity is getting a bit out of hand now. I like the film, but didn't love it.

34. Has anyone seen the trailer for "Be Kind Rewind" directed by Michele Gondry, starring Mos Def and Jack Black? I don't know what to think really.

I have watched it twice now and it looks like "Science of Sleep" Gondry, not "Eternal Sunshine" Gondry. Or maybe a mix. Or maybe neither. It definitely looks to be pure comedy without any serious aspects; maybe the visuals of "Science of Sleep", but scaled back and no love story; just the zany duo of Mos Def and Jack Black. I'll see it.

35. Do you think "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" is one of the best films ever? Not one your favorite films, but one of the best films, right up
there with "The Godfather", "Citizen Cane", and "It Happened One Night".

"Eternal Sunshine" is better than all three of the movies above. Get over it.
