How do you define a musician? Do they have to know how to play an instrument? Must they write their own music? Who would you call a true musician?
What isn't music?

A good musician: can write great lyrics and not something that has been written and sung over and over again with great hooks and melodic value AND knows how to put it all together properly.
In my opinion...... RAP!

Just one more thing... an after thought I guess. Our music instructor had told us that what isn't music, is just noise.
I'm no expert... won't pretend or claim to be... but my reply is that I think... therefore this is an opinion... that anyone who has any sort of rythmn or beat can be definded as a musician.
Pretty much just about darn near anything can be an instrument... I'm a huge fan of the group called STOMP. They use paper bags, oil drums, straws in lids off of fountain drink cups, sinks, water, brooms, typewriters... there were quite a few varities of "instruments". If a sound can be produced from it or in it... it is an instrument. By the way, if you've never seen a performance by STOMP... you're in for a real treat if they ever come to your town.
That's my thought on your subject.
